SSR Meeting Minutes (2003-03-04)
- Members Robert Abernathy, Mark Bottjer, Camille Scielzi, Fred
Yarger, Kim Schaffer, Matt Perini, and Bill Brundage were present. The
meeting was held at the public library meeting room, at 6PM, on March
4, 2003.
- The singletrack maintenance day, March 1, was a success. A new trail was established from near the old trailhead to the gate 2/10 mile to the north, and the existing trail was groomed. EMRTC seems to be happy with the change, and Tech security has been notified. A total of 17 volunteers worked during the day. A suggestion was made that we put up a series of "Stay On Trail" signs.
- The Shelter Shuffle has a few early registrations, but most are
expected to sign up late. The event has been listed on several local
calendars, as well as the NM Tourism Dept calendar. A volunteer
meeting will be held on Thursday, March 27, at 6PM in the
library. Jackie is concerned that we're asking for too many APAS
volunteers, and so we brought the requirement down to two at the
turnaround by asking runners to pick up their own water from the
table. Volunteers should stay behind the table, filling cups. They'll
be out of the way of dogs that way. The race course was changed so
that the entrance/exit to the track is at the sidewalk on the
northwest corner. This concentrates the race traffic away from
continuing registration under the pavilion. The timing plan was
discussed, and there seems to be enough SSR volunteers to go around.
- The first Relay For Life fundraiser will be a chili-and-cornbread
sale at the flea market on Friday (sponsored by Trex). We discussed
other fundraisers, including a scratcher game that Camille found and
the swim-a-thon. It is unclear what participation we'll get from the
SSR membership, and the Trex component will be weak, excepting Camille
and Mark. A suggestion was made that SSR begin committing a certain
percentage of event proceeds to the relay. Matt will poll the
membership using the website and get back to the relay committee
within two weeks. We are seeking relay team members and a consensus on
the percentage to donate.
- The first handicap run, on February 20, was a 5K on the duathlon
course. There were 8 runners, including two new members, Joe Dickerson
and Shawn West. The next run will be March 6, a 10K on the low flow
channel road. After that, the final two runs will be the first
Thursday of April and May.
- Matt reported that the city has not made any progress on the pool
repairs, and is waiting for the end of the legislative session to see
if any money gets appropriated. The city is beginning to prepare its
budget, and is asking for no increases. However, since the Chamber is
not including the FTF and will have the same total request as last
year, we will have an increase. Matt proposed asking for the same we
received last year, i.e., $2800 for the triathlon and $1500 for the
FTF. We will begin preparing the budget request.
- The scheduling of the Hwy 60 cleanup is postponed to the May meeting.
- The mountain bike picture rally will be held on May 3. Robert will
begin planning.
- The RRCA ballot issue to bill for all members 13-years or older as
households used to be billed was voted against. Robert will mail the
ballot.
- The April meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 1, at the public library
meeting room at 6PM.
