Tri Team Southwest Ride Review

Last Saturday's ride with members of Tri Team Southwest turned out to be a lot of fun. E.P Higgs, Mike and Steven Montoya, Matt and Cathy Perini, and Christian Krueger, and nine more riders from Tri Team SW, rode the 50 miles from the Owl Bar to the Santa Fe Diner and back in cold and sometimes moist weather, but having all that company on this long hard ride made the miles go by much faster. Having a chile cheeseburger waiting at the end also helped. Thanks to Mike Guidicissi and Tri Team SW for this good time.

Shelter Shuffle 5K Moved To March 29th

The real planning for the Shelter Shuffle 5K has started, and as a result, things are changing. Matt and Cathy Perini and event organizer Camille Scielzi attended the APAS meeting on Tuesday January 14th, and APAS was excited about the event and the chance to raise community awareness of their organization and the work that they do. However, since the planning is starting so late, SSR asked to delay the event until March 29th.

APAS will be providing most of the volunteers needed on race day, so start planning to take part in this race. Don't forget that the $10 race entry fee all goes toward APAS. For the non-runners, there will be a walking event. For both events, dogs are welcome, however, they must be leashed.

Schaffer Wins Handicap Series

Kim Schaffer showed the consistency that has characterized her performances during the Fall Running Series once again on Tuesday, January 12th's 5K run. Fred Yarger left first and held the lead through the race, holding off a hard-charging Matt Greenley. Kim finished next, followed by Robert Abernathy (in his first loss of the series), and Bill Brundage.

Thanks to all the members who participated in this series, and I hope that it helped to augment your off-season training with a little fun racing. Many thanks go to the volunteers who came to the races, including Laura, Christian, and Cathy.

Chupadera Wilderness Trail Run Set For February 2nd

Meet at the Chupadera Wilderness Trail trailhead on February 2nd, at 9AM, for a group run to the top of Chupadera Peak and back. This trail is within the Bosque del Apache, and climbs nearly 2000 feet in about 5 miles. The run takes between 1:30 and 2:30, depending on your ability.

To get to the trailhead, drive about 6.5 miles south on NM Hwy 1 from San Antonio. Turn right off NM 1 about 1/4 mile south of the railroad crossing. The turnoff is hard to miss; it's the first dirt road on the right past the railroad. Pass underneath the railroad bridge on this dirt road, and drive to the end of the road, about 1/4 mile.
