Chupadera Wilderness Trail Run Set For February 2nd

Meet at the Chupadera Wilderness Trail trailhead on February 2nd, at 9AM, for a group run to the top of Chupadera Peak and back. This trail is within the Bosque del Apache, and climbs from 4550' to 6125' feet in about 5 miles. The run takes between 1:30 and 2:30, depending on your ability.

To get to the trailhead, drive about 6.5 miles south on NM Hwy 1 from San Antonio. Turn right off NM 1 about 1/4 mile south of the railroad crossing. The turnoff is hard to miss; it's the first dirt road on the right past the railroad. Pass underneath the railroad bridge on this dirt road, and drive to the end of the road, about 1/4 mile.

Shelter Shuffle 5K Set For March 29th

The Shelter Shuffle, an event designed to raise awareness for the Animal Protective Association of Socorro (APAS), will be held at Clark Field on March 29th. The first event, consists of a timed 5K along 6th Street, for which the runners are encouraged to bring their dogs. Runners must keep their dogs leashed at all times, and all runners, including those without dogs will start at the same time.

The second event will be a 1-mile fun walk/pet parade on the track at Clark Field. For this more slow-paced activity, put your pet in costume; APAS will be presenting prizes for their favorite costumes.

In addition, there APAS may have one or two dogs from the shelter there for a limited version of one their adopt-a-thons. Can you resist?

Lastly, a dog agility demonstration will be going on during the latter part of the morning. You may have seen the shows on Animal Planet; dogs running through obstacle courses against the clock. A trainer from Belen will be present; who knows, you may want to sign yourself and Rover up for lessons!

APAS will be providing most of the volunteers needed on race day, so start planning to take part in this race. Don't forget that the $10 race entry fee all goes toward APAS.
