Alyssa Higgs Wins At Odessa
This is probably not the last time you'll see a headline like
that. The Odessa Tumbleweed Triathlon, a 500m/20K/5K event in
Odessa, Texas was held last weekend. Thirteen year-old Alyssa, and
her father, E.P., both competed, with Alyssa finishing in 1:13 and
E.P. in 1:19. Alyssa held her own in the swim, swimming stroke for
stroke with the two of the top male triathletes in the region,
Bobby Gonzalez and Perry Toles. She finished the swim just behind
Gonzalez, and held on during the bike and run to take her first
overall female victory.

Regular Meeting Tuesday July 1
Striders And Riders will hold a regular monthly meeting on
Tuesday, July 1st, at the Socorro Public Library meeting
room. The current agenda includes: the next meeting of the Socorro
Hash House Harriers, the city pool status, an August bike rally,

Fat Tire Fiesta And Triathlon Preparations in High Gear
Striders And Riders premier events, the Socorro Fat Tire
Fiesta and the Socorro Chile
Harvest Triathlon are both coming up soon. Both events
are also in need of volunteers; if you're interested in
helping out at two of Socorro (and New Mexico's) finest
sporting events, contact us at matt@pmc-inc.com. In
particular, the Fat Tire Fiesta is looking for people who
can make trail traces for the ride maps.

Week in Review
Other than Alyssa's big win, the only other result we have to
report is Mike Dennis's sixth-place finish in the NMRS D division
at the Tour of Suburban Cloudcroft bike race. Mike finished fifth
in the time trial in 53:00, and sixth in the road race. Also, a
correction: Mike finished fifth in his division in the NM road
championship, not eighth as previously reported.
Coming up, the Magdalena-Kelly run; this'll probably be on Sunday
July 13th, but I haven't seen an Old Timer's schedule
yet.
