Hash House Harriers To Meet Thursday

The next meeting of the Socorro Hash House Harriers will be at 6PM at the brew pub on Thursday July 17th. The run will start at 6:30 with a live hare (our first!). We may also have visiting hashers from Albuquerque, so let's get out and have some fun!

Trash Cleanup July 29

Due to the difficulties we've encountered in cleaning up our adopted section of Hwy 60 (first low turnout, then rain), the members present at the July meeting voted to try again on July 29th. We'll meet at the east end at 7PM and make our way west.

Weekend Results

Magdalena-Kelly Run

The big race of the weekend was the annual Magdalena-Kelly run, a 7K climb from Magdalena to the old church in Kelly on Sunday. This year's overall winner was the awesome Kim Schaffer, and many other SSR members competed, including Robert Abernathy, Sandy Nolen, Fred Yarger, Laura Jean Wilcox, Steven Montoya, Addy Bhasker, Bill Brundage, Shorty Vaiza, and Matt Perini. Full results will be posted in next week's edition.

Thanks to the Magdalena race organizers for another great race. As usual, the race went off without a hitch and it seems that everybody gets at least one prize after the race!

Bottomless Lakes Triathlon

On Saturday, Matt Perini and Robert Abernathy traveled to Roswell's Bottomless Lake Triathlon, a 400 meter swim, 14K bike, 4K run event at Bottomless Lakes State Park. This is one of the shortest and fastest triathlons around, and at times it seems you don't have a chance to breathe. Matt finished the swim second in his wave (the first of two), and got out to a lead on the bike for a short time before being caught up, finally finishing third in the Clydesdale division, 17th/80 males. Robert was saving his strength for the Magdalena-Kelly run on Sunday, and finished 9th in a crowded age group, 47th/80 males. See the complete results at http://members.trailnet.com/oles.

Mountain Man Triathlon

Christian Krueger competed at the Mountain Man Triathlon in Flagstaff, Arizona over the weekend. Christian did the 1.5K swim, 40K bike, 10K run race in 2:13:38, finishing 26th/222 overall, and 8th/33 in his age group.
