Calling all members: SCOPE is doing a Walk To Wellness program and we also need help to chart new MTB courses!
The SCOPE Diabetes / Obesity Core Team has organized an 8-week walking program designed to motivate people in the Socorro
area to get fit. It culminates with the April 16th 5K Run and 1-mile Walk. Help spread the word by printing out the
flyer and
registration paperwork.
For the mountain bikers, please stop by Spoke N Word Cycles to see how YOU can help
map out new and personal trails in the Gordy's (or Johnson') hill area! BLM needs our help in making
this a great biking area. They will provide GPS units and give you a map of what you charted. Also, take some time to
check out the Fat
Tire Trail Guide, an awesome resource on the current local trails!

Upcoming Races and Local Race Results
2005 Southwest Challenge Series Calendar Is Out!
In addition to our general calendar that we keep
updated, the 2005 Southwest Challenge Series calendar has been
released. To see it, just click on the roadrunner on the left side of
the page or here.
Pay no attention to the fact they got the Chile Harvest Tri order of
events wrong. Again. Some upcoming races are:
Trans-Mountain 20k Run
Robert had to skip the Stealth Du in order to maintain his marathon training by running
the difficult 20k Trans-Mountain race. It seems that was a wise move as he did quite well,
finishing 19th out of 54 men in the 40-44 age group. His final time was 1:53:06.8,
good enough for 116th in thr 521 person field!
Stealth Duathlon
Where else do you get to race past high tech airplanes,
across runways, and through normally highly restricted land?
Why at the Stealth Duathlon (and the triathlon in the fall). It was a little windy
but the sun was out - making for a great race. The timing, however, was a different story.
There was a lot of controversy as people's times were read. The placing seemed about right so
that is all we will report in the Age Group results below:
-
Ephraim Ford 3rd (25-29)
-
Julie Ford 2nd (30-34)
-
Sandy Nolen 1st (40-44)
-
Urs Fitzi 1st (30-34)
Wind Triathlon
With much better weather than at the WSMR Du, a few locals enjoyed a great tri on March 5th (5K/35K/400m). Age Group race results below:
-
Ephraim Ford 3rd/4 (25-29) 21:42 1:09:54 9:56 1:41:33
-
Julie Ford 2nd/4 (30-34) 22:12 1:14:20 10:38 1:47:10
-
Matt Perini 2nd/12(40-44) 23:20 1:00:14 7:39 1:31:13
-
Robert Abernathy 11th/12(40-44) 22:18 1:15:59 11:00 1:49:17
